french dictionary of psychology

ANIMISM -----

Animism is a primitive system of thought common to young children and to some rare and isolated tribes. For example, animists believe that natural phenomena that cannot be explained rationally have their own willpower. Thus, “night” seems to be a magical phenomenon once the rotation of the earth is ignored.

Animism is more spread out than it may seem; tens of millions of people are subject to it, many of them not having the necessary instruction to break loose from their beliefs.
